Sheer Khurma or Vermicelli Pudding - Sheer Khorma is a delicious, quick, traditional and easy dessert prepared in Pakistan, India and many other countries on special occasions, festivals like Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha. It consists of Milk, dry fruits and Clarified Butter. My mom always cooked Sheer Khurma after Eid Prayer and we used to wait for our dad (late) to come so we enjoy this dessert together. I didn't know its name before since i was a kid but used to call it Dudh wali Saiwaiyan.


Sheer Khurma recipe which I am going to share you at this special occasion of Eid is prepared by my Mother in Law. I just captured this tempting dessert and asked her for the recipe, which i am going to mention below;-

Preparation : 10 minutes

Cooking Time : 15 to 20 minutes

Makes : 5 to 6


  • 1/4 cup of Vermicelli
  • 1 liter of Milk
  • 3 tablespoons of Clarified Butter (Ghee)
  • 1 teaspoon of Cardamom Powder
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons of Sugar
  • 6 to 8 cashews chopped
  • 8 to 10 almonds sliced
  • 6 to 8 unsalted Pistachios chopped
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • 5 to 6 dates chopped seedless
  • 2 tablespoons of Charonji

Procedure to be followed:

  • STEP 1: In a wok, roast Vermicelli with Clarified Butter (Ghee) till golden in color. Take it out and set aside.
  • STEP 2: In a same wok, add in dry fruits, saute them for about 2 to 3 minutes. 
  • STEP 3: In another pan, add in milk and Sugar, lower the flame and wait for 5 to 10 minutes till the milk thicken. Add in the roasted Vermicelli, simmer till it is cooked properly. Cook for another 5 to 8 minutes.
  • STEP 4: Add in the dry fruit mixture and the cardamom powder to the vermicelli milk pan. Dish it out, garnish and serve hot or chilled.

  1.  You may add Khoya or Mawa (Dried Whole Milk) at the end for extra rich milky flavor. 
  2. If you are using dried dates (Kharik or Chuwaray) in Sheer Khurma, dot saute them in Clarified Butter (Ghee). You may soak overnight as well.
